The long-established company, based in Hounslow in London, has been in operation for more than 30 years. The order for the two B8Rs is the first Volvo purchase in recent years, and comes on the back of a trip to the Sunsundegui factory in Spain earlier this year.
General Manager of Westbus, Tim Miles, explained: “We needed an upgrade to our fleet and were in the market for something smaller than a full-size coach, but still with the feel of a larger vehicle, and the B8R SC5 was the perfect fit for us.
“We were fortunate enough to visit the Sunsundegui factory during the specification of the interior of our new vehicles and I was so impressed with how accommodating everyone was in sourcing the correct fabric and colours to match our corporate look, nothing was too much trouble for anyone.”
The coaches will mainly be used for inbound travel and touring, due to the close proximity of the company to Heathrow Airport, but will also be utilised for private hire contracts. The Volvo B8R SC5 is a versatile vehicle and able to negotiate the narrow streets around town and city centres making it ideal for densely populated areas like London.
Tim Miles, added: “We have chosen to buy from Volvo because we believe the chassis is well built, the overall package and specification was perfect for us and our Volvo Retail Bus and Coach Sales Manager, Jo Baker, was excellent to deal with and made sure we got everything we wanted.”
Jo Baker said: “One of the key advantages of this Volvo model is that it has a small and compact design, but with 38 seats, it still provides the passenger and luggage capacity many require. It is highly flexible and equally suitable for driving around country lanes or tight city centre streets.
