Isle of Man Transport order six new Volvo buses

Isle of Man Transport have placed an order for six new Volvo B9TL double deck buses with Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 2 bodywork, adding to the six B9TLs delivered in November 2013.

“We were pleased to place another order with Volvo,” explained Isle of Man Transport’s Ian Longworth. “The performance of our B9TL buses currently in operation played a significant role in our decision. They have proven reliable and economic on fuel over the last few months.

“The Volvo Bus and Wrightbus double deck combination is something that we know and like, and that has proven more than satisfactory for our ongoing transport requirements.

“These new vehicles are part of our ongoing fleet renewal programme and all six buses will be in active service by April.”

Efficient and environmentally-optimised for urban stop start as well as suburban environments, the new B9TL is ideally suited to operations on the Isle of Man.

Isle of Man Transport’s new B9TL buses feature the company’s own corporate design and silver livery. The driveline is the familiar transverse-engine layout featuring the Volvo D9B 9.4 litre engine and automatic gearbox.

Each vehicle features 68 passenger seats and room for 17 standees. This includes 27 lower deck seats and 41 seats upstairs. All round air suspension and disc brakes with electronic control add to passenger comfort and safety.

“We are delighted to secure this repeat business with Isle of Man Transport,” commented Volvo Regional Bus Sales Manager, Dan Barwick. “The B9TLs they had at the end of last year have performed well and that is the fundamental reason that we have secured another order.

“It’s an excellent endorsement of the performance of our products and it gives us a significant ongoing presence on the roads in the Isle of Man.”
