Long-term trust keeps Gibson Direct using Volvo

The long-term trust established between Renfrew based Gibson Direct and Volvo Bus has played a major role in the recent delivery of three new Volvo B11R coaches with Sunsundegui SC7 bodywork.

“We’ve bought Volvo coaches for many years,” explained Robert Gibson from Gibson Direct. “We have always had a strong relationship and trust with them to manufacture our vehicles. It all began with Volvo B10Ms, which did us proud and today we’ve got a fleet that includes 20 Volvo coaches.”

Robert Gibson continued, “Last year we took our first Volvo B11R and it has performed really well in terms of fuel consumption and performance. The performance of that vehicle had a direct influence on us purchasing these new vehicles and we’re certainly looking forward to getting them on the road.

“For us it is the reliability, fuel-efficiency, back-up and support that you get as standard with Volvo that makes all the difference,” he continued. “The Volvo frontline technicians and local dealership at Cardonald are also extremely responsive and we know that if we require support urgently they will respond to us.”

Gibson Direct’s new Volvo B11R coaches are to be used on the company’s Caledonian Travel tour work contract. “It’s really important that we maintain our vehicles to the very highest standard to make sure passenger’s holidays aren’t disrupted,” added Robert Gibson. “Volvo provides us with that re-assurance.”

Each of the new vehicles is fitted with 49 passenger seats with three point safety belts. In addition the vehicles feature a centre demountable toilet, CD/DVD audio system, two TV screens and a reversing camera, to aid the driver during difficult manoeuvres. The new coaches are also registered with similar and unique number plates, SG63 VGC, SG 63 VGD and SG 63 VGE.

Launched in 2012, Volvo’s B11R chassis has already proven popular with operators requiring both power and capacity. The vehicle is equipped with the fuel efficient Volvo D11C six cylinder diesel engine. First-class driveability and exceptional torque also ensure that the coach runs smoothly and effectively on the road.

“The new Gibson Direct coaches are going straight into active service,” explained Volvo Bus Regional Coach Sales Manager, Jim Newman. “We have a strong reputation with the operator thanks to the performance of B11R that they took delivery of in 2013 and hopefully these new coaches will only further enhance that relationship.”
