Barnes Coaches opt for Volvo again15/10/13
“We’ve specified Volvo B9R coaches in the past,” explained Barnes Coaches’ Luke Barnes. “In fact 40% of our current fleet is now built on the Volvo chassis.
“They’ve always been good quality, reliable vehicles for us,” he continued. “The coaches we’ve had have proved economic on fuel, which is a huge positive for us and that has undoubtedly played a part in our decision to specify Volvo again on this occasion.
Back-up and support supplied by the local Volvo dealership at Wales and West is another key factor. It is good to have that level of reassurance that if anything did go wrong, it will get sorted quickly and efficiently,” continued Luke Barnes.
“Volvo’s Regional Sales Manager, Richard Mann, was able to provide us with the vehicle we wanted on a competitive and affordable package, so as a result, we were delighted to continue our association with Volvo Bus.”
The mid-range B9R is an economic, adaptable and safe coach, which offers driving quality, lightweight characteristics and versatility. With high reliability, low fuel consumption and good environmental properties, it is ideal for private hire and tour operations, such as those operated by Barnes Coaches.
Fitted with the rear-mounted 9-litre Volvo D9B engine and incorporating the Volvo I-Shift 12-speed fully automated mechanical gearbox, the vehicle provides a smooth, highly fuel-efficient driveline. The B9R provides a dependable foundation for high productivity and fuel economy.
Seating 53 passengers, the new vehicle’s interior moquette design has been specifically specified by Barnes Coaches themselves. Other features include courier seat, TV, DVD, sound system, generous luggage space and onboard centre mounted toilet.
“Barnes Coaches are already successfully operating a number of Volvo coaches,” explained Richard Mann. “The positive results they’ve had with those existing vehicles has undoubtedly influenced this sale. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
