Luton based operator, Three Star Coaches, recently took delivery of a new Volvo B7R coach with Sunsundegui bodywork and it was passenger response to one of their existing Volvo vehicles that played a crucial role in their choice.
“We already have a Volvo with Sunsundegui bodywork, built on the B9R chassis and it has proven extremely popular with our customers,” explained Three Star Coaches’ Colin Dudley. “On this occasion we required a shorter vehicle and we decided we’d like to keep it in the same family and purchase a B7R with Sunsundegui bodywork.
“The 38-seat vehicle allows us to easily cater for those travelling groups of around 25-35 people that we often get. It is light weight and therefore quite nippy when travelling around. It also proves economical in terms of fuel.
Colin Dudley was also keen to play tribute to the Volvo back-up and support. “We’ve obviously tried other manufacturers in the past and one thing that particularly stands out about Volvo is the excellent back-up and support. They have a reputation for excellence and from our experience it is well deserved.”
Three Star Coaches new Volvo B7R features the 7.1 litre Volvo D7E engine, offering a broad torque range, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The lightweight engine married with an uncomplicated chassis provides a low net weight, in turn creating high passenger capacity and optimised productivity.
The new B7R has an onboard TV screen, CD/DVD system and Three Star Coaches will also be fitting a rear servery. It is being used on the company’s day trip programme, on private hire and for corporate clients.
“We are constantly reviewing the requirements of our fleet,” continued Colin Dudley. “Our policy is to try and bring in a new vehicle each year, in order to improve and reduce the overall age of our 15 vehicle fleet. We intend to continue our dialogue with Volvo going forward to help achieve our long-term goals.”
