Ten new Volvo buses delivered to Plymouth Citybus

Plymouth Citybus, part of the Go Ahead Group, has taken delivery of ten new state-of-the-art Volvo Euro 5 B7RLE buses with Wrightbus Eclipse 2 bodywork, following the £1.6 million order announcement earlier this year.

Volvo’s Bus Sales Manager, Phil Fletcher met with Andrew Wickham, Managing Director of Plymouth Citybus to complete the formalities of the handover.

“We’re delighted to take delivery of our new vehicles, as this is our largest number of new buses for at least five years,” explained Andrew Wickham. “They look superb and they’ll be going straight into service later this week.”

Phil Fletcher was quick to draw attention to quality of the Volvo product, “We’ve worked alongside Wrightbus for a long time and that is clearly demonstrated in the quality and popularity of the combination. Regionally this is a big delivery for Volvo and hopefully a platform for further growth in the area. ”

The new low emission buses, developed at the Wrightbus factory in Northern Ireland, are powered by the rear-mounted D7E 7.1 litre in-line, common rail diesel engine and connected to the 6-speed ZF Ecolife gearbox. They are specifically designed to achieve high reliability, excellent driveability and low fuel consumption.

Each of the vehicles features 41 passenger seats with stylish red and cream leather trim. Ample internal space has also been provided for pushchairs and wheelchair users.

The new vehicles have gone straight into service on the popular Plymouth Citybus Route 43, which runs from Plymouth City centre to Ernesettle.

All ten of the new buses feature Go Ahead’s stylish new livery, which was launched in 2011. The new buses also feature a large distinctive digital destination display, fitted with passenger information requirements in mind.
