The seven members of the Volvo Bus Executive Group: Steve Dewhurst, Nick Page, Phil Owen, Andy Kunze, Ian Downie, Gordon Reid and Sally Parkes are being joined by Volvo Trucks Managing Director Göran Nyberg, along with Volvo Truck & Bus Dealer MDs Martin Merrick and Jim Collins.

Starting today, Wednesday, September 7, the four day C2C Challenge is a key part of the company’s aim to raise £100,000 for their chosen charity Teenage Cancer Trust by the end of 2011. The team is off to a great start with the news that over £7,000 has been already pledged for the C2C Challenge.

“We’ve certainly been training hard for the event,” said Steve Dewhurst, Volvo Bus Managing Director, “but it looks as though the weather will be against us over the four days, which isn’t ideal. Our first day is 53 miles cycling to Penrith followed by 2 days of walking and the final push on the bikes to Tynemouth. We would be grateful for any amount that people can spare for this extremely worthwhile charity, it is one that really makes such a difference to the lives of these young people.”

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity devoted to improving the lives of young people with cancer believing that teenagers shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have cancer. They build specialist units in NHS hospitals where young people with cancer are treated with others their own age, in an environment best suited to their needs.

The units are specifically designed to be as close as possible to a young person’s normal life, helping them cope with gruelling treatment and long stays in hospital. They also bring teenagers with cancer together so they can support each other.
