Volvo quality makes the difference for Go North East

With an active fleet of 660 vehicles, Go North East understand the importance of high quality engineering and that has been one of the defining factors in their recent decision to purchase seven new Volvo B9TL double deck buses, with Wrightbus bodywork.

“The Volvo/ Wrights combination is one of real quality,” explained Go North East, Commercial Director, Martin Harris, “given our customer and business requirements the B9TL ticked the boxes for us.

“Taking into account the Volvo Bus commitment on fuel performance and with the attractive overall package including service, price, delivery and aftermarket care, the B9TL was the obvious choice for us,” he continued.

“These buses represent an important investment for Go North East and their recent deployment has increased our capacity by 15% overall on the operations involved, as well as improving the quality of service that we can offer our customers.

“The aftermarket support in the North East, at Volvo Washington, has always been proactive”, continued Martin Harris, “they support us with our current Volvo products efficiently and effectively which is one of several factors in our decision to specify Volvo with these new vehicles”.

Although the Gateshead based company run a number of Volvo manufactured buses, this purchase marks their first new Volvo vehicles in the last few years, which delighted Volvo Bus Regional Commercial Manager, Arthur Argyle. “We’ve got some really good quality vehicles going into Go North East,” he explained. “Hopefully these buses can be the first of many more”.

The two axle B9TL double deckers are specified with a rear mounted Volvo D9B, Euro 5 standard engine rated at 310hp, which is coupled to a ZF Ecolife automatic transmission gearbox with integrated retarder. The 19 tonne buses are also fitted with EBS, disc brakes and ABS as standard.

Vehicle capacity is 88 with 71 passenger seats per bus. Emblazoned in a special new double deck version of the Red Arrows livery the vehicles will run on the Red Arrows X1 route as well as the NPower (Rainton Bridge) contract.
