Carol Peters Travel name their first Volvo 9700 after John Dover

Carol Peters Travel of Ramsgate, Kent, have named their first new Volvo 9700 Prestige Plus coach in memory of Volvo Bus Regional Sales Manager, John Dover, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident last year.

“When we were told the awful news of John’s death it was actually the week of the delivery of our new Volvo 9700 coach and John would have been due down for the handover,” explained Peter Howe of Carol Peters Travel. “We have often thought about naming our coaches, but with this being our first new Volvo and also sadly being John’s last sale, we thought it very appropriate to name the vehicle after him”.

“We were very appreciative that John’s widow Marita and his daughter Laura made the journey to Ramsgate to officially name the vehicle”.

The high specification two axle Volvo 9700 comes as standard with a rear engined Volvo B12B chassis platform, featuring Volvo’s 12 litre diesel engine and Volvo I-Shift technology, helping to minimise both fuel consumption and harmful emissions.

Fitted with electronically regulated independent front air suspension, wider spaced rear air suspension and large tinted side windows, the 9700 is built with passenger comfort in mind. The interior features a theatre floor and 49 Volvo TS2000 Comfort Plus seats with integral three-point safety belts.

Reflecting the high specification requirements set by Carol Peters Travel, the new Volvo 9700 also features GPS Satellite Navigation, for driver and passenger viewing, a high capacity ventilation system, with individually adjustable air-circulation outlets and reversing camera. Adding to passenger comfort is a Volvo Sound & Vision on-board entertainment system.

“We liked the vehicle from the outset,” explained Peter Howe, “it has the luggage space, excellent sound equipment and all the safety and passenger comfort we required and it certainly looks extremely stylish”.
Carol Peters’ new Volvo 9700 has joint a fleet now numbering 10 vehicles and is already in use on the company’s UK and continental holiday tours, as well as day trips and private hire contracts.

Volvo Bus Regional Sales Manager, David Stevenson, who took over responsibility for the completion of the handover, following John’s untimely death, paid his own tribute, “John was a wonderful colleague, a great salesman and a strong family man,” he said. “It’s a lovely gesture by Peter and Carol to name their vehicle after John and I know that Marita and the rest of his family are very touched”.
