Docherty’s new Volvos carry Scottish Football Clubs

Docherty’s Midland Coaches of Auchterader in Perthshire has recently taken delivery of two new Volvo 9700 coaches, which have already been placed into service as the official team coaches for St. Johnstone and Montrose Professional Football Clubs.

The 12.3 metre 2 axle coaches are fitted with the Volvo 12 speed I-shift gearbox, a rear-mounted, 6-cylinder, 12-litre diesel engine, producing 420 hp and electronically controlled air suspension as standard.

Specified with 49 Volvo TS2000 Comfort Plus seats with integrated 3-point safety belts and adjustable settings, the new 9700’s are ideally suited to service the requirements of a professional sports team, as well as more traditional coach contracts. With up to 11.2 metres2 of luggage space the vehicles have ample storage capacity, ideal for the numerous school contracts, Scottish day tour services and to support major Golf events at Gleneagles hotel.

The strength of Volvo’s relationship with Docherty’s has also recently seen the company take delivery of two Volvo B7RLE service buses with Wrightbus bodies. The buses also operate on one of Docherty’s local contracts between Perth and Blackford and are expected to cover some 1200 miles per month servicing the local community.

With 16 Volvos now in the Docherty fleet it’s a relationship which continues to grow and prosper as Colin Docherty explained “We’ve had a lot of Volvos before, the Volvo Truck and Bus Centre is literally just down the road in Perth. They’re always very accommodating and most importantly for us – they find a reasonable price on vehicles”.

“We’ve known Jim Newman (Volvo, Regional Sales Manager) for a number of years through his previous employers and we were pleased to be able to work with him again to purchase our latest vehicles. We always have a good look at the market to see what we like and what prices work for us and Volvo has, once again, met all that criteria on our new purchases,” continued Colin Docherty.

“We’ve managed to do some good business with Docherty’s Midland Coaches over the last few months,” commented Volvo Bus Regional Sales Manager, Jim Newman. “The new 9700’s look really outstanding now they have been fully liveried and I understand Docherty’s have been pleased with their performance. We were also delighted to be able to meet their requirements for 2 service buses and I hope that we can work with them again in the near future”.

Docherty’s Midland Coaches is a family owned business run by Jim and Edith Docherty and their three sons, William, Colin and Neil.
