The huge donation came courtesy of money raised during “The Classic Road Tour,” organised by Volvo Bus in September of this year. A significant amount of money was generated at the time and donations have continued to pour in over the last few weeks, taking the total amount raised to an incredible £10,000.

“The Classic Road Tour” – part of an ongoing company-wide Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) money raising initiative – saw Volvo’s Derek Mayor, in his classic two seater Morgan sportscar and Barry Mace, astride his BMW R1200 GS Motorbike, travelling around 14 Volvo Truck & Bus dealerships across the UK and Eire in the space of just three days collecting donations.

Supported tremendously every step of the way by colleagues Alec Evans and Mike Baldwin in the Volvo support vehicle, the duo where absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity across the network. “We couldn’t believe the welcome we received at every dealership we visited,” explained Barry Mace. “Not only that, but they had all made a real effort to raise significant amounts of money for TCT,” continued Derek Mayor.

Accepting the cheque for Teenage Cancer Trust from Volvo Bus Managing Director, Steve Dewhurst during the Euro Bus Expo Show at the NEC, Quentin Willson was keen to pay tribute to Derek and Barry, as well as the rest of the Volvo team. “The money raised from events like this really does make a difference to the lives of young people suffering from cancer. It helps provide them with the facilities they need and offers them a better standard of life and I was delighted to come and lend my support to such a worthwhile cause”.

A long standing supporter of Cancer charities, Quentin Willson was also present at “The Classic Road Tour” launch event at Volvo HQ in Warwick and was impressed at the enormity of the challenge the boys were undertaking for TCT. “It really is a tough ask to complete 1180 miles in the space of just 3 days”.

Volvo Bus Managing Director, Steve Dewhurst wasn’t at all surprised at the success of the Classic Road Tour, “Derek, Barry, Mike and Alec all really wanted to do something to make a difference and support our nominated charity Teenage Cancer Trust. Although it was a tough challenge, I wasn’t in any doubt that they would succeed because they had the support of the whole company and knew how much of a difference this event could make to the lives of children in Warwickshire”.

“I’d like to thank everybody in our dealerships across the UK and Eire for their fantastic support during the Classic Road Tour, as well as Quentin Willson for lending his personal support at the launch and again today at EBE, but most of all I’d like to thank the lads for putting themselves through such an a gruelling challenge to support our initiative,” Steve Dewhurst continued.
