First full size Volvos for award-winning Warrington01/09/09
The investment is part of a fleet upgrade programme for WBT whose high standards of service and growing passenger numbers led to it being named 2008 UK Bus Operator of the Year and Shire Operator of the Year at the UK Bus Awards.
Longstanding Volvo customers, WBT had previously purchased Volvo Merit midi buses but passenger demand meant the need for increased capacity. The new vehicles are specified with Volvo’s Euro 5 Incentive 7.1 litre common rail fuel injection engine – the D7E - rated at 290hp along with a ZF six speed gearbox. Ten are fitted with speedometers and two have tachographs.
All 12 feature Wrightbus Eclipse2 bodywork. The easy access vehicles have been designed to WBT’s specification and have 45 Esteban Civic cantilever seats with capacity for 39 standees, full electronic destination equipment front and rear, Wrightbus battery protection system, seven camera CCTV system for the enhanced safety of all customers and full LED interior saloon lighting.
“We wanted to increase capacity on a number of routes but were also keen to keep the Volvo/Wrightbus combination which has worked so well for us in the past,” explained Charlie Shannon Operations Director of Warrington Borough Transport. “We feel that the B7RLE will provide the perfect solution. The low-floor, easy access design meets our customers’ requirements while the quality of the Volvo engineering and back-up means we’re confident it will deliver in service.”
Volvo’s Regional Commercial Manager, Arthur Argyle added, “Warrington Borough Transport have been a loyal Volvo customer for a number of years and we are delighted that the range of vehicles we offer means we can continue to meet their changing requirements.”
