Lawmans opt for quality and fuel economy with new Volvo B9R

Lawman’s Coaches have taken delivery of their first Volvo B9R, with Plaxton bodywork. The Kettering based operator, who also took two Van Hool bodied B12Bs from Volvo dealers, Moseley Coach Sales, have long favoured the Volvo/Van Hool combination for touring work but wanted something different for private hire.

“Volvo products have always performed extremely well for us,” explained Managing Director, Rod Lawman. “We’ve found them very reliable and always enjoy excellent back up via our local dealers, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre at Kettering, who are based just a stone’s throw from our premises. In fact the customer care we receive is one of the reasons we continue to come back to Volvo.”

Rod continued, “This time, however, in addition to our touring vehicles, we wanted something for general private hire and more regional work - something which would look good and perform well without the higher running costs of a full executive coach, and when we saw Volvo’s new B9R we felt that would be ideal. We love the Plaxton Panther bodywork and the design options mean we can accommodate 57 passengers in comfort whilst achieving the benefits to fuel economy that a lighter vehicle brings.”

Specified with Volvo’s 9 litre D9B engine rated at 380hp, coupled to the I-shift gearbox, the 12.2m  Volvo B9R combines the driving qualities of the B12B and B12M with the full size, yet lightweight characteristics of the B7R, resulting in an economic, adaptable and safe coach with excellent driving properties.

Standard Volvo safety features include Volvo’s Electronic Braking System (EBS), which combines with all-round disc brakes and Volvo’s VR3250 compact retarder to give a rapid reaction time and shorter stopping distances, as well as Hill Start Aid, Emergency Braking Assistance and Brake Blending.

A high floor arrangement and theatre-style seating configuration enables optimal viewing position for passengers, in a specification which includes 57 seats, each with three point seatbelts and individual reading lights; Thermoking climate control system throughout the vehicle; an MP3 compatible CD tuner and PA amplifier with 2 microphones; and alloy wheels.

Volvo’s Regional Coach Sales Manager, Jo Standbridge commented, “We’re pleased to be able to demonstrate a different Volvo product to a longstanding customer. One of Volvo’s big advantages is the wide range of products we have to meet different customer needs and I’m sure Lawmans will be satisfied that they have made the right decision this time.”

Established in 2003, Lawmans Coaches is an independent family run business. In addition to UK and continental touring on behalf of a number of holiday operators, they operate private hire and school contracts and run a number of scheduled excursions.
