Nathan goes for 9700 to guarantee first class travel

When Nathan Motors decided that their new coach had to have a ‘first class’ feel, there was only one contender – the Volvo 9700 Prestige Plus.

“I only buy Volvo,” said Managing Director Kulanthaivelv Satkunatanthan, better known as Nathan. “They’re reliable, great performers, they look good and are really comfortable – all very important to us as we have a lot of corporate clients.”

Nathan continued, “I wanted the new vehicle to be something special. It’s primarily for airport transfer work from Heathrow, which includes the pilots and cabin crew, as well as passengers. I wanted the ‘first class’ environment to continue on the coach, so it had to be the 9700.”

The new vehicle’s interior styling promotes an overall feeling of luxury and space. The theatre-style flooring ensures that all 51 passengers have excellent viewing, while the climate control, servery, and Volvo Sound & Vision entertainment system – comprising CD,DVD player and TFT monitors - mean that every comfort is guaranteed.

The 12.3m Volvo 9700 Prestige Plus is specified with the popular DH12E engine – rated at 420hp – coupled to the I-Shift gearbox. Enhanced safety features include Front Underrun Protection System (FUPS) which prevents a car being wedged underneath the coach in the event of a frontal collision, along with Front Impact Protection System (FIPS) which protects the driver in the same. The latest generation Electronic Braking System (EBS) with its Electronic Stability Program (ESP) promote controlled braking and road holding, for a safe, smooth ride.

“The passengers love this and I certainly enjoy driving it,” said Nathan. Seventy year old Nathan, who has been in the coaching business for over 40 years, still regularly drives all his coaches.

“I tend to mainly do the airport transfers and all the staff at Heathrow know me by name,” he explains. “I’ve always enjoyed driving – it’s why I went into this business – I’m not going to stop now!”

Nathan Motors was established in 1976. As well as airport transfer work, the five- strong fleet handles school runs, school trips and corporate clients.”
