Two new Volvo B8R SB3 coaches delivered to Whitelaws of Stonehouse as part of a fleet expansion for the Scottish operator.

The company is a long standing customer of Volvo Bus and this latest order follows two integral Volvo B11R 9700 coaches which were delivered in 2017.

These new B8Rs are being deployed on school contract services as well as on other local private hire work involving larger groups.  They were selected due to the 72 seat capacity, the fuel consumption performance and overall reliability of the Volvo chassis.

Sandra Whitelaw, Managing Director of Whitelaws, said: “Our school and coach fleet is virtually all Volvo, we’ve been operating their vehicles for many years now, and we needed two larger capacity coaches to handle school contract work. The combination of the B8R chassis and SB3 bodywork gives us the operational performance we need, along with the 72 seat capacity, which was very important.

“Our company was the first UK operator to purchase vehicles using the Volvo/Sunsundegui combination back in the early 2000s and these are the first SB3s we’ve added to our fleet.  Our purchasing decision was based upon our previous experience of Volvo as well as the high standard of aftersales service we receive from Volvo Truck and Bus Blantyre.

“Our Volvo Retail Bus and Coach Sales Manager, Bob McGarry, was a big help to us throughout the whole specification and purchasing process and we greatly valued his input when selecting our latest coaches.

“We are delighted to be adding these two new vehicles to our fleet and they are a fantastic addition which has broadened the service we are able to offer to our customers.  It gives us great pleasure to buy another Volvo vehicle.”

Bob McGarry said: “Not only is Whitelaws is one of our longest established and most loyal customers, they are one of the UK’s leading coach operators.  We are pleased to see them adding these latest vehicles to their fleet and are confident they will provide all the features and benefits they require for their business and more.”

Whitelaws Coaches is a family owned and operated business and provides a range of coach and bus route services throughout Scotland.  Managing Director Sandra Whitelaw is the current chairperson for CPT Scotland.
