Discover in Volvo Safety at Euro Bus Expo 2016

Volvo Bus is inviting vistitors to Euro Bus Expo 2016 to ‘Discover in Volvo Safety’ as it highlights some of the latest technologies geared towards enhanced safety and comfort.

Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) is an advanced driver assistance steering system that is scheduled for introduction to the UK and Ireland in the first quarter of 2018. The Volvo stand features a VDS simulator, where visitors can experience the system for themselves in a ‘virtual’ environment.

VDS is an electrically assisted hydraulic steering system that offers many benefits for the driver including what is describes as ‘feather light’ steering at low speed together with excellent parking and manoeuvrability.  In addition, directional stability is improved which is helpful when driving on demanding roads and in poor weather conditions, particularly in cross winds.

The steering wheel is designed to always return to the centre position during manoeuvring and reversing while problems from driving on poor road surfaces are suppressed. Overall the system helps reduce drivers fatigue and delivers a very positive driving experience.

All three coach exhibits - both inside and outside the show halls at the NEC - feature Volvo’s Driver Support System (DSS), now standard across the Volvo coach range. DSS includes AEBS (forward collision warning and advanced emergency braking systems) and LKS (lane keeping support).  In addition, ACC (adaptive cruise control) is offered as an option on various Volvo B11R body types when specified with the I-Shift gearbox.

Another new innovation from Volvo is a pedestrian and cyclist detection system, which is currently undergoing operational field trials in Gothenburg. The device works by providing the driver of two audible warnings, one interior and one exterior.

Along with VDS and DSS, this system is part of Volvo’s continuing journey towards a long term vision of ‘zero accidents with Volvo’.

Nick Page, Managing Director for Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, said: “The Volvo name is widely synonymous with safety and a continual drive to improve both driver and passenger safety are always at the forefront of everything we do. A visit to the Volvo stand at EBE 2016 is therefore an excellent opportunity to discover in Volvo safety.”
